Meet Claude Aumont of Chicken On The Run North in North Bay
When you order from Chicken On The Run in North Bay, the person who pulls up in the refrigerated van and carries the boxes to your door is Claude Aumont. He picks up the order fresh, works out the delivery time with you by text or a quick call, and most of the time he is greeted with a hug. People like it when the meat guy comes.
Claude has spent his whole adult life selling Northern Ontario to the rest of the world. His day job is promoting motorcycle, RV, snowmobile, ATV and boating tourism for the province, and before that he spent nine years building the snowmobile trail system from Temagami to Cochrane. Since February 2026 he has also run Chicken On The Run North, his own company, Northern Protein Supply, operating under the Chicken On The Run name.
One of his Facebook recommendations puts it simply: "Amazing service, amazing meat."
Why a Tourism Marketer Started Delivering Chicken
Claude is open about how this started. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a couple of years ago, and when the symptoms picked up he decided to clean up his diet. He started ordering meat from a friend who sells direct from Canadian farmers, driving to the warehouse to pick it up himself. Then, in January, he became a single dad to three kids and did the math on one salary.
That same friend had been telling him for ten years that Chicken On The Run should be in North Bay. This time Claude listened. He bought a small van with a reefer unit, the supplier agreed to meet him in North Bay, and he started delivering. Driving relaxes him, it gets him out of the office, and it feeds his own family the way he wants to feed them.
Fresh Chicken Delivered in North Bay, Not Frozen
Chicken On The Run has delivered fresh meat to Ontario doors since 2003, and the company works directly with beef, bison, chicken and turkey farmers. Everything is Canadian. The chicken comes from Central Ontario farms and is brought into the company's Barrie warehouse fresh every day.
What matters to Claude is the timing. The chicken is picked up fresh from the farmer and delivered the same day, not frozen. It cannot sit in the truck, because if it sits it freezes, and his customers want fresh chicken. If you get home from work and Claude delivers that night, the chicken was harvested the day before or the day of. Freeze it yourself if you like. You are freezing a fresh piece of chicken.
What to Know Before You Buy Chicken Anywhere
Claude's advice is to pay attention to what has been done to the chicken before it reached you. Grocery store chicken is sometimes injected with water or salt, and it has sat. It does not change the taste much, but it changes the feel. You get chicken that is rubbery and chewy.
His chicken has no added water and no added salt. When you cook it, you can cut it with a fork. It comes apart. That is also why caterers and local restaurants have started sourcing their chicken through him. Lot 88 in North Bay uses Chicken On The Run chicken, and so does Angèle's Catering in Sturgeon Falls.
What a North Bay Family Should Order First
Claude is honest about this. If you order a discounted meat bundle to try it out, you may not notice a big difference and wonder why you paid a premium. Where you will notice it is the fresh chicken breast, the steaks, the fresh ground beef and the fresh ground pork. That is what Chicken On The Run specializes in.
The best value in the catalogue, in his opinion, is the chicken thighs. You get a lot in the box, they are not frozen, one package feeds a family of three perfectly, and they are cheaper than the grocery store.
Then there are the bragging rights. The chicken fingers are whole chicken tenderloins, breaded, so the kids like them because they taste great and the parents like them because it is pure chicken breast. The burgers and the gourmet beef hot dogs are bigger and better than the warehouse club ones, for the nights you want to spoil yourself.
Who Orders from Chicken On The Run North
Claude's typical customer is a busy mom with two or more kids, often teenagers who eat a lot. She cares about GMOs, does not want salt or water added to her meat, and wants premium quality at a fair price. She is too busy to drive to the warehouse club on a Saturday, so an after hours delivery to the door suits her. Once a family like that finds him, they tend to stop buying meat anywhere else.
Caterers and restaurants order too, and the company runs a fundraising program for teams, schools and clubs, where supporters shop with a QR code and a share of every order goes to the cause.
