Meet Lucas Garland and the Family Behind Garland's Property Care in North Bay

Lucas Garland started Garland's Property Care right here in North Bay, and he built it the slow way, one yard and one neighbour at a time. There was no big launch. Customers told other customers, and the business grew on word of mouth and on doing the same careful job every week.

It is a family business in the plainest sense. When a worker quit this summer and the lawns kept growing, Lucas asked his mother if she wanted to work. She said sure, and ran a route of her own while he worked seven days a week for weeks on end to keep every customer cut on time. His wife Sarah now answers the phone through the day. And this year the family got bigger again.

Garland's Property Maintenance, the Sister Company for Everything Else

For years Lucas's customers kept asking him for things he did not do. Can you stain the deck? Take out that hedge? Paint the shed? He always said no. He did not have the hours, and he does not like painting.

This year his sister Sarah and her husband Jeremy left their life in Kitchener Waterloo and moved north to Astorville to take on that work, under a name North Bay already knew: Garland's Property Maintenance. The family sent one email to Lucas's customers listing the new services, and Jeremy has been busy ever since. The work has run from deck staining and painting, tree and hedge removal, gardens, rock gardens and interior painting to light fixtures, door trim, railings, drywall repairs, patio stones and dump runs with the family's dump trailer. He cuts lawns too, twenty to twenty six a week.

Most of it spreads the way it started. Jeremy is out front taking down a hedge, a neighbour walks over to say it looks great, and by dinner he has four more houses on the list. Lucas is Care, Jeremy is Maintenance, and anything one of them cannot take on goes to the other.

Lawn Care in North Bay Done the Same Way Every Week

At the height of the season Lucas cuts around twenty lawns a day, five days a week. The mowers are commercial SCAG machines, and every visit includes trimming along fences, walkways and garden beds, blowing the clippings off the hard surfaces, and the clean stripes people slow down to look at.

He does keep one day for talking. Lucas loves his customers, but in the middle of a twenty lawn day he cannot stop for a long chat. So the customers who like to visit get booked for the end of the day on Friday. Then he can stand in the driveway for an hour and nobody else waits.

Snow Removal in North Bay: Commercial Lots and Laneways

Winter is where the family learned the most. Garland's now runs two trucks with two plows, and Lucas is focused on commercial lots and on laneways where a plow truck works best. Commercial work is zero tolerance, so on a heavy night he is back at a property two or three times to keep it clear.

He is also honest about what a plow cannot do. If your driveway has a retaining wall or a front garden and nowhere to push the snow, Lucas will tell you, and he will send you to a local operator with tractors and blowers who can do it properly. He would rather see you looked after by someone else than do a poor job himself. Jeremy covers the south end of North Bay and out through Callander and Astorville, so nobody is waiting on a truck driving across town.

What to Know Before You Hire a Lawn Care Company in North Bay

Ask Lucas and he will tell you the price is the price. He does not match the last guy's number, because the last guy is often the reason you are calling. When one local operator folded, Lucas looked at what he had been charging and understood why straight away.

What you are paying for, in his words: quality work, an answer when you call, your lawn cut, and accountability, reliability and consistency. Some people will not pay for that, and he is fine with it. The ones who do tend to stay for years.

What Customers Say About Garland's Property Care

Every one of the sixty three reviews on Google is five stars, and they keep landing on the same few things: a fast answer, a driveway cleared first thing, and a crew that treats the property with care. One customer wrote that Luke was respectful of the neighbours on a shared driveway and did not leave a mess to shovel out of their way. Another had paid a different contractor for driveway work that never got done, then came home from work to find Garland's had cleaned the whole driveway. Property managers and landlords count on the company too, from multiplexes in town to a call from the cottage when something breaks down.

Community Votes Winner for Lawn Care in North Bay

North Bay voted Garland's Property Care the number one Platinum winner for lawn care in the Community Votes awards in 2024, in 2025, and again in 2026. Lucas found out about the third win the morning we met for coffee. The company is licensed, insured and WSIB compliant, and it is owned and run by people who live here.

Lawn Care, Snow Plowing and Handyman Services for North Bay, Callander and Astorville

Garland's Property Care offers weekly lawn cutting, spring and fall cleanups, core aeration and overseeding, fertilizing and top dressing, garden maintenance and snow plowing with walkway clearing and sanding. The Green Package bundles the lawn season and payments do not begin until April. The Blue Package covers winter, starts automatically at five centimetres of snow, and puts package clients ahead of everyone else. The family is also booking rock gardens and garden bed projects for next spring, and plans a weed control package with monthly payments.

Garland's Property Maintenance takes the handyman list: painting, staining, hedges and trees, small repairs and dump runs. It does not take on licensed plumbing or electrical work, or additions.

The two companies work North Bay, Callander, Corbeil, Astorville, Powassan, Trout Creek, Nipissing and West Nipissing.

What to Expect When You Call Garland's

Through the day Sarah answers the phone. She takes your name, number, address and what you need, and if you leave a voicemail she calls you right back. Lucas goes through every request that evening, drives out to price the ones that need a look, and decides whether the job belongs to Care or to Jeremy's side. After hours and on weekends Lucas answers his own phone. A text is his favourite, because everything you said is right there in writing.

Estimates are free. Payment is by cheque or e transfer. And if you are not happy, the company's own words are to call Lucas directly, and they will make it right.
