Heart to Heart Celebrations

David and Tina Lock of Heart to Heart Celebrations in North Bay

Meet David Lock, the Wedding Officiant Behind Heart to Heart Celebrations in North Bay

If you've been to a wedding in North Bay in the last fifteen years, there's a fair chance David Lock was standing at the front. He is an ordained clergy member and a wedding officiant registered with the Province of Ontario, and he has been helping people celebrate life, from a baby's first ceremony to a last goodbye, for more than fifty five years.

David's roots here go back to 1963, when his father came to North Bay to work for Union Gas. As a boy David sold the North Bay Nugget door to door. He took his first church at seventeen, spent ten years overseas in Papua New Guinea, and worked in Tennessee and Port Colborne before he came home to North Bay for good in 1997.

Your Wedding, Your Way

Heart to Heart Celebrations was built on one idea: it's your day, not his. David says it plainly. You won't find him in the ring shot, the kiss, or the middle of your photos, because the ceremony belongs to the two of you. He sits down with you first, listens to how you met, and writes a ceremony around your story instead of reading the same words he read last weekend.

Couples notice. One review calls him "genuine, caring and a great listener" and says he "truly wants your day to be about what you want." Another says the ceremony turned out "exactly the way we wanted it. Casual, fun and stress free."

What to Know Before You Book a Wedding Officiant in Ontario

Here is something David wishes every couple knew. Under Ontario's Marriage Act, the legal part of a wedding is only a few lines. Everything else, the vows, the readings, the rings, the music, is optional and it's yours to choose. You can have the full ceremony with every tradition, or you can have the shortest legal wedding in North Bay. One couple holds David's record for that and dared the rest of the town to beat it.

The other thing to know is that the paperwork matters as much as the ceremony. David handles the licence side with you, and reviews mention him following up after the wedding to help couples get their marriage certificate. If you were married in another country, or you've been living common law and wonder what a legal marriage changes, ask him. He reads the fine print so you don't have to.

Weddings, Elopements, and Ceremonies That Fit You

David performs traditional and religious weddings, personalized ceremonies, and same sex weddings, which he was among the first in North Bay to offer. His view is simple: love always wins.

If you'd rather skip the big production, elopements are his specialty. Pick a place, bring a witness or two, say the words, and it's official. He has married couples beside waterfalls, at the lake, and in a driveway. He also does themed weddings, pop up weddings at a party your guests think is something else, handfasting ceremonies with Celtic roots, and spiritual ceremonies for couples who aren't religious but want the moment to mean something.

Ontario's Drive Through Wedding Chapel

In 2017 David opened a drive through wedding chapel on Castle Street, modelled on Las Vegas. CTV picked it up and the story ran across the country. When the pandemic closed almost everything, the chapel was deemed an essential service, and for a stretch it was one of the only places in Ontario where you could still get married. Couples who had lost their venue got their wedding anyway.

The chapel is still going. David and his wife Tina now run it from their place on Manitou Street, so if you want to be married without leaving the car, or in a small room with a few people who matter, you still can.

Baptisms, Naming Ceremonies, and Celebrations of Life in North Bay

Heart to Heart Celebrations covers the whole arc. David performs baptisms and christenings according to your beliefs, and naming or dedication ceremonies for families who want to welcome a child without a church. He officiates celebrations of life and funerals, and he has blessed a couple's fiftieth anniversary in front of their whole family.

His approach is the same at every one: the service is about the person and the family, never about him. One family who hired him for their wedding asked him back years later for a parent's service, and wrote that he was "such a blessing on our joyous day" and "very professional" on the hard one.

Marriage Licence Help and Legal Paperwork in North Bay

Beyond the ceremony, David helps people with the government paperwork around marriage: licence applications, documentation for couples married outside Canada, and the forms that newcomers and First Nations families often need to sort out before a wedding or a benefit claim. It's the part of the process that trips people up, and he does it every day.

Santa D and Mrs. T Claus

Ask around North Bay's schools and you'll find out David has another job. He has played Santa for more than fifty years, and today he and his wife Tina appear together as Santa D and Mrs. T Claus at schools, community events, corporate parties, and private homes. From November 12 to Christmas Eve, the beard is real and the schedule is full.

Two rules set them apart. Santa never takes a photo with a crying child; Mrs. Claus settles the family first, and the picture waits until everyone is smiling. And when the line is long, Santa stays until the last child has had a turn.

What to Expect When You Call Heart to Heart Celebrations

You call or message, and David sits down with you, in person or on the phone, to hear what you want. There are no packages to pick from, because you build the ceremony and he writes it. He shows up early on the day, works with your photographer, and stays on top of the paperwork after.

Couples across North Bay have given Heart to Heart Celebrations a 4.8 star rating on Google over thirty reviews. Read a few and you'll see the same words come up: kind, funny, professional, and yours. Then give David a call and tell him what your day looks like.
